Registrants must be 21 years or older. This class is not for those new to shooting. You need to be competent with the fundamentals of marksmanship (it is recommended that you have fired approximately 500 or more rounds from a handgun or have had formal handgun training). You will need a handgun suitable for self-defense and a strong side outside the waistband holster for your handgun.

Minimum of 2 students required. Beginning and intermediate experienced pistol shooters. Students need the following items: a quality pistol appropriate for concealed carry (preferred calibers: 9mm, .38 special, .40 S&W (ACP), .45 ACP), a quality firing side outside the waistband (OWB) belt holster, a quality belt designed to carry a holster, at least two magazines (3 preferred), and a spare magazine pouch (two speed loaders and a spare loader pouch if using a revolver), appropriate concealment garment, and approximately 200 rounds of factory practice ammunition.

NRA FIRST Steps Pistol or Basic Pistol, or an equivalent course, military firearms training, or a current concealed handgun permit from Colorado or other states, or have shooting experience such as having fired approximately 500 or more rounds from a handgun.

Personal Protection IN the Home (PPITH) - Student
18 years of age or older. Must be experience shooters. Proof of experience includes successful completion of the NRA Basic or First Steps Pistol course, competitive pistol qualificaticion card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment (contact instructor for information on the requirements).
INTERMEDIATE
Personal Protection OUTSIDE the Home (PPOTH) - Student
21 years of age or older. Must be experience shooters. Proof of experience successful completion of the NRA PPITH course or passing the Pre-Course Assessment (contact instructor for information on the requirements).

Required for all new NRA instructor candidates and current instructors desiring to add disciplines and it has been more than 12 months since they last attended a BIT course.

Must successfull complete the Pistol Instructor Pre-Course qualification by scoring 90 percent or higher on the Student Basic Pistol Examination, successfully complete the pistol handling exercises (loading and unloading a single action and double action revolver and semi-automatic pistol, and clearing common pistol malfunctions), and successfully shoot at a 9 inch target at 15 yards.

Personal Protection IN the Home (PPITH) - Instructor
21 years of age. Successfully complete the BIT course (see course description). Must successfull complete the PPITH Instructor Pre-Course qualification by scoring 90 percent or higher on the Student PPITH Examination, successfully complete the pistol handling exercises (loading and unloading a single action and double action revolver and semi-automatic pistol, and clearing common pistol malfunctions), and successfully shoot at a 9 inch target at 21 feet.

21 years of age. Successfully complete the BIT course (see course description). Must successfull complete the PPOTH student course AND be both an NRA Certified Pistol AND PPITH Instructor.

21 years of age. Successfully complete the BIT course (see course description). Must successfull complete the Rifle Instructor Pre-Course qualification by scoring 90 percent or higher on the Student Basic Rifle Examination, successfully complete the rifle handling exercises (loading and unloading a bolt action, lever, and semi-automatic rifle and clearing common rifle malfunctions), and successfully shoot at a 4.5 inch target at 25 yards from the bench rest, prone, and standing positions.

Must successfull complete the Shotgun Instructor Pre-Course qualification by scoring 90 percent or higher on the Student Basic Shotgun Examination, successfully complete the shotgun handling exercises (loading and unloading a pump, hinged, and semi-automatic shotgun, and clearing common shotgun malfunctions), and successfully shoot at a 25 shot round of trap or skeet when practical with a minimum ot 13 hits..
